We Do Not Accept All Manuscripts
Welcome to Film District Distribution — where great books become great films.
We are very selective: we only accept books with stories that are suited for film adaptation.
Before you submit, please make sure your book meets our criteria:
What We’re Looking For
• A strong story with visual potential
• Clear characters with goals and obstacles
• A compelling plot that viewers can follow
What We Do Not Accept
• Mostly internal thoughts with no action
• Experimental/structurally atypical
• Primarily philosophical or abstract writing
• Formats like letters or diary entries only
• Experimental literary fiction
• Stream-of-consciousness narratives
• Primarily philosophical works
• Non-narrative memoirs
• Poetry collections
• Academic texts
What Makes a Book Film-Adaptable?
Film-adaptable books are stories that can be turned into something you can see and hear on screen.
They have clear characters, exciting actions, real life-like dialogue, and scenes that can be shown visually.
If a story has mostly thoughts inside a character’s head or experimental layouts, it usually doesn’t fit film because movies rely on actions and visuals to tell a story.
What You Need to Know Before We Work Together
